Even before the Wright brothers' flight in 1903, Kansans were exploring the possibility of flight, though no one was successful until 1911. Albin K. Longren and Clyde Cessna had their first successful flights in September and December of 1911, respectively, and went on to open factories for manufacturing airplanes.
